Re: Studio Canal / Kinowelt / Optimum
It might actually mean precisely the opposite and that the French disc has English subs because a UK release using the same discs might be planned.

StudioCanal doesn't have the US rights (Criterion's disc is licensed from Plaza Productions International.)ryannichols7 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 20, 2022 1:26 pmI'm guessing that's their way of saying "we won't release this in the UK, and the US labels aren't interested in a 4K release", very kind of them
And I think tenia is likely correct that the engliah subs are included because StudioCanal is going to release it in the UK.

Re: Studio Canal / Kinowelt / Optimum
oops my bad. that works out though - I'd be extremely shocked if Criterion ever even considered this as a UHD title, considering it hasn't even seen a BD releasedwk wrote: ↑Tue Sep 20, 2022 2:08 pmStudioCanal doesn't have the US rights (Criterion's disc is licensed from Plaza Productions International.)ryannichols7 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 20, 2022 1:26 pmI'm guessing that's their way of saying "we won't release this in the UK, and the US labels aren't interested in a 4K release", very kind of them

Luchino Visconti's 'Ludwig' is going to be released on 4K in France. You might want to skip this or hold onto the previous Arrow release as they are using a new 4K restoration that was done this year by L’Image Retrouvée.

An Essential Becker box is coming in the UK in November:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Essential-Beck ... s_li_ss_tl
It includes Casque d´or. Presumably it is taken from the new restoration.

John Gullermin's 1976 King Kong is getting a UK UHD release through Studio Canal, and despite what it looks like, it actually wasn't performed at Hiventy.

A pleasant surprise. I've wanted to check these out for a while - normally I wouldn't be that interested in the Three Musketeers but they're Richard Lester films and Dave Kehr (a big Lester fan) really liked them, so I'm curious to see what's different about them.JSC wrote: ↑Mon Mar 06, 2023 9:10 pmRichard Lester's The Three Musketeers and The Four Musketeers coming

They fit in very well with Lester's irreverent approach to any source material. Plus there's some
great set design and cinematography. Spike Milligan also has a nice supporting part in the first
film.

Re: Studio Canal / Kinowelt / Optimum
Most excited about Peeping Tom and Persepolis (the latter I didn't expect at all, and the original BD is over ten years old, so a fresh scan is very welcome). Wicker Man has got to be a UHD.

Wouldn't be surprised to see a 4K release for Contempt come soon since it's the film's 60th anniversary this year. I'm just hoping that Lionsgate gave up the rights to Contempt since I'm sick of the exclusive releases that people only in the U.S. can get. I'm still sore at not being able to get The Limey

I wonder how many of those are actually going to come out any time soon. If I'm remembering correctly, a number of titles from previous coming soon reels/teases have yet to be released.

Re: Studio Canal / Kinowelt / Optimum
Great to see Peeping Tom, badly needs a new Blu.
But most excited about Circle of Danger! A film I never expected to see on a list like this, one of Tourneur’s small understated films, an investigation film with a beautiful climax in the Scottish highlands. Hopefully it won’t take years to come out.

It is a catalogue trailer, so it can very well be that some of these movies will be "coming soon" for a theatrical rerelease only.

Re: Studio Canal / Kinowelt / Optimum
Out of that list, I’d actually be most happy with a nice release of The Others, an under-praised film seemingly too “genre” for the arthouse crowd and too arthouse for the genre crowd. In the US though it’s probably still tied up in Dimension Films/Miramax purgatory.

I was thinking the same thing. I haven't seen it since theatres but it was a very affecting film - certainly much more than its infamous spiritual cousin that came just a year or two before

Re: Studio Canal / Kinowelt / Optimum
Already available on streaming via Netflix (along with a deluge of other SC titles) in a number of European locations. Which is where I caught it, very solid restoration of a very solid movie.
